OUR STORY

The Central Coast Potters Society Inc. (CCPS) was established over the Australia Day weekend in 1968, when five local potters — Harry Arnall, Kitty Orvad, Joan Matthews, Margaret Keane and Roger Keane — called a public meeting to form a pottery group. Around 30 people attended, some of whom remain members today.
From the beginning, the aim of CCPS has been to develop the knowledge, skills and appreciation of pottery among members and the wider community.

In 1969, the group leased the old Scout Hall in Terrigal and worked together to restore it. After several years and ongoing challenges, an opportunity arose to establish a permanent home on land allocated for the arts in Russell Drysdale Street, East Gosford. With strong support from the community, including Councillor Jim Tarbox, and significant fundraising efforts by members, the society secured funding to build a dedicated workshop.

The current workshop at 10 Russell Drysdale Street was completed in 1980 and continues to be the home of CCPS today.

Our facilities include a well-equipped workshop with kilns, wheels, hand-building areas, a library, kitchen and accessible amenities. CCPS remains an active and welcoming community, offering classes, workshops, exhibitions and events throughout the year.
